Kyongma is a small village near to Lukla, in the beautiful, fertile area of Pharak, located between Solu and Khumbu in the Everest region of Nepal. It is a struggle for small temples such as Kyongma to carry on, faced with the tendency of the local people to migrate towards Kathmandu and, in the case of monks, to enter bigger monasteries in the Kathmandu Valley. However, throughout this mountainous region, it is still possible to find small temples and monastic communities, such as Kyongma, which help to maintain the spirit of community amongst those villagers who continue to live and work in the region.
Kyongma Gompa is in a very deteriorated state and the local people have got together to form a committee to try and raise the necessary funds to carry out repairs. If you feel that you are able to help them with this task, donating whatever you can, it will be greatly appreciated by the Sherpa people living there.
